On September 2017, Hurricane María ravaged Puerto Rico as a Category 4 Storm.

Today, everyone on the Island still remembers the destruction and the painfully slow recuperation process. Even though I was personally left with no power and running water for seven months, this was probably one of the things I looked forward the most during those hard months: an uplifting project that aimed to bring everyone's hopes up.

Through this initiative, Medalla Light rescued fallen trees and turned them into musical instruments just in time for Puerto Rico's most festive season: the holidays. We partnered up with local artisans who crafted some of our most iconic instruments - panderos, the cuatro and bomba drums. These instruments were then trusted to local musicians Macabeo, who created an uplifting song to remind everyone that Puerto Rico's beat will always be heard.
